Updates to IACUC policies 6, 24, & 25

IACUC recently revised the following policies:

Policy #6: Requesting Changes to an Approved Animal Use Protocol. The following changes have been made to section A.

A. Significant change(s) described below must be approved by one of the valid IACUC approval methods, either by Full Committee Review (FCR) or Designated Member Review (DMR):

Added the following:

  • Change/addition of a new satellite area;
  • Change/addition of a new animal species to an approved satellite area;
  • Request for daily husbandry and management activities within a satellite area provided exclusively by the PI and/or laboratory staff members;

Policy #24: Decapitation for Euthanasia.

The following changes have been made:

  • Added a new section B. After the Decapitation Procedure
  • Added the following to the existing section C:

2. All laboratories using a guillotine must maintain a log which documents guillotine

usage and maintenance. Please use the form below for guillotine use and

maintenance (Appendix 1).

4. The log must be available to the IACUC and site visitors/auditors/inspectors from

regulatory agencies.

Policy #25: Visitors/Minors in Animal Research Area

  • Additional information added to section B. 2. Visitors Performing Hands-On Animal Procedures
