NIH has implemented the new Common Form Biosketch requirements, affecting how biosketches and SciENcv materials must be handled in InfoEd. To ensure successful validation and submission of NIH proposals, all users preparing NIH applications must follow the updated instructions below. For more information about SciENcv and the new NIH Commons Forms check out the video from the January CORAL presentation (15:15) and slides. Please reach out to your assigned GPS Specialist for assistance in creating the new Biosketch.
InfoEd Requirements for NIH Biosketches
Re‑select the Funding Opportunity for Older PD Records
For Proposal Development (PD) records created before January 25, 2026
- The biosketch validation tool will not function unless the user re-selects the funding opportunity inside the PD record.
- No error message will appear if the record is affected, so manual correction is required.
Action:Open your PD record → Navigate to the Opportunity section → Re-select the correct NIH opportunity.
Uploading Biosketches: Use “Original,” Not “Transformed”
When uploading the Common Form biosketch:
- Select “Original” upload in the CV/Biosketch Upload Window.
- Do not use the “Transformed” version generated by InfoEd.
- InfoEd’s transformation process “flattens” the file.
- Flattened files fail NIH validation.
Action:
Upload the Original biosketch file exactly as produced by SciENcv or the NIH PDF template.

SciENcv
Validation Warnings
Some SciENcv biosketches may generate pre‑submission
validation warnings within InfoEd.
- These warnings may be safely ignored but review
them carefully.
Action:
Proceed with submission even if SciENcv validation warnings appear.
Quick
Summary for Users
- Re-select the opportunity for older PD records
to enable biosketch validation.
- Upload only the Original biosketch file—not
the Transformed version.
- Review warnings to ensure there are not issues.
