The STARs (Science and Technology Acquisition and Retention) Program provides funding for health-related institutions such as UTMB to recruit or retain active research faculty. These funds supplement institutional resources. Each health-related institution, including UTMB, receives an annual allocation of STARs Program funding in three categories:

Faculty STARs (Max $1M)
Designed to recruit and retain highly qualified faculty with national reputations and the promise to become a candidate for membership in one of the National Academies.

Rising STARs (Max $300K)
Provides funding opportunities for institutions to attract up-and-coming research faculty who are recruited in a tenure-track position.

Translational STARs (Max $1M)
Provides for recruitment or retention of nationally recognized leaders in translational and clinical sciences.

See the UT System website for information about the program, program guidelines and nomination instructions.
