TriNetX: Update

Jan 15, 2020, 14:20 PM by Melodi Moore

UTMB Information Services (IS) presented a new product and the implementation timeline for researchers and staff in the May Research Quarterly Update.  In response to questions about that product and an updated timeline, we asked Rev Sellappan, IS Director, Business Intel & Data Administration, to inform the UTMB research community what is happening with this product.

UTMB is in the process of implementing TriNetX, a global health research network that optimizes clinical research and enables discoveries through the generation of real-world evidence. TriNetX combines real-time access to longitudinal clinical data with state-of-the-art analytics to answer complex research questions at the speed of thought.

TriNetX is intended to:

  • Optimize Clinical Research with real-time access to patient populations, driven and refreshed by electronic medical record (EMR) data, to determine protocol feasibility, cohort analysis and site identification.
  • Analyze Real-World Data: Longitudinal clinical data combined with state-of-the-art analytics for the creation of real-world evidence (RWE).
  • Attract Sponsored Trials & Collaborate thru a the largest network of healthcare organizations, biopharmaceutical companies and contract research organizations working together to improve clinical research.

TriNetX has partnered with over 70 healthcare organizations, spanning 11 countries to deploy a global health research network which represents over 100 million patients which is constantly being updated.  Through its cloud-based platform, TNX™, researchers can analyze patient populations and conduct feasibility studies in real-time. Through just a browser, researchers can now query tens of millions of de-identified patient records and obtain aggregate results that are HIPAA compliant.

UTMB has completed the install and configuration of the TriNetX server in our data center and we are currently in the process of mapping clinical data from our I2B2 deidentified database to the TriNetX schema. UTMB is expected to be a fully functioning participant of the TriNetX network by March 16th. TriNetX will be providing onsite training through Research Services to researchers on using the tool in early March.

Be on the lookout for an invite!
