Ted Nash Long Life Award Limited Submission

The Ted Nash Long Life Foundation out of Waco, Texas is inviting two proposals from UTMB.   Our institution is one of only seven medical schools in Texas and the Mayo Clinic invited to apply for these awards.  UTMB is allowed two (2) proposals.

The Ted Nash Long Life Foundation supports small medical research projects (no more than $100,000/year for 2 years) from tenured or tenure-track researchers.  Research results should eventually extend the life expectancy of the average American.

Expenditure requests may include the following categories:

STIPENDS, FELLOWSHIPS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Faculty research stipend for the Principal, not to exceed a total of $10,000 per year.
  • Postdoctoral fellowships should be set by the Qualified Grantee Institution. If there are no amounts set by the Qualified Grantee Institution, then the payments for Postdoctoral fellowships may not exceed $60,000 per year or$5,000 per month. Appointments should normally be for 12 months and, at least initially, for not less than three months.
  • Graduate fellowships should be set by the Qualified Grantee Institution. If there are no amounts set by the Qualified Grantee Institution, then the payments for Graduate fellowships may not exceed $54,000 per year or $4,500 per month. Appointments must cover at least one meaningful period such as an academic year, semester, quarter or summer, and where possible, a whole year.
  • Undergraduate scholarships, up to $24,000 per year.  Rates may not exceed $2,000 per month.  Appointments must cover at least one meaningful period, as described above.

PERMANENT SCIENTIFIC EQUIPMENT

  • Items with at least one-year useful life expectancy and costing $5,000 or more each.

    EXPENDABLE SCIENTIFIC ITEMS, SERVICES, AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE (not itemized)

  • During the grant performance period it will be necessary for the Qualified Grantee Institution to maintain a record of actual expenditures, by category, for inclusion in the annual Financial Statement.

    PUBLICATION EXPENSES

  • Preparing and publishing the results of research accomplished under the grant, including page charges, reprints, and necessary illustrations, charts, graphs, etc.

    TRAVEL

  • Travel by the Principal and the fellowship or scholarship recipients under the grant, relating to the research. Total expenditures should not exceed $3,000 per grant year.

This is a Limited Funding Opportunity open to multiple career levels and can include graduate and undergraduate stipends.   • Title of project
  • PI name, title, department, institution, email (and cooperating institutions if called for)
  • Abstract of up to 500 words
  • Timeline including milestones for the funding period

Routing form: An Office of Sponsored Programs Proposal Routing form must accompany all intramural research grant applications (copies of this form are available at the OSP web page: https://research.utmb.edu/sponsored-programs/proposal-forms. 


All competitive applications will be reviewed and applicants will be notified of acceptance and rejection no later than COB, September 23, 2022.  This will give selected applicants three weeks to work on a full application.
