In an email from UT System Associate Vice Chancellor for Federal Relations, Tom Jacobs, PhD,  UTMB leadership was encouraged to share the new NIH HEAL (Helping to End Addition Long-term) initiative across the research and clinical enterprises.  Dr. Jacobs points to a statement from the NIH Director's announcement stating that the NIH plans to award more than $850 million in support of HEAL Initiative research in fiscal year (FY) 2019 (from funds appropriated in FY 2018 and FY 2019).  Those clinical and basic science investigators interesting in learning more should review the HEAL Initiative Research Plan

The Plan addresses the research opportunities, the 2019 budget, collaborations and governance, and the expected deliverables and timeline.  This includes the 36 new FOA's announced this week.  Many of these RFAs have due dates coming very soon.  A spreadsheet listing all the RFAs, Notice number, application due date, number of awards, allowable budgets and whether the award is best suited for basic, clinical or translational science can be found here.  If you are unable to access this spreadsheet, please do not hesitate to contact the Blog Editor, Melodi Moore.
