Introduction:

The UTMB Shipping Program was reviewed and revised. Under the new Shipping Program appropriately trained research, clinical, and support staff may ship biological material domestically. Radioactive, chemical and select agent samples must have Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) approval to be shipped. All international shipment of biological material must be coordinated with the Office of Transfer Technology (OTT) and EHS prior to shipping.

Under the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) all individuals involved shipping are responsible for insuring the accuracy of all documentation (including waybills) associated with the shipment and proper packing of the material.

Training Requirement:

Individuals must have the appropriate training for the type of material they are shipping. Please ensure that all DOT/IATA, Dry Ice and exempt specimens shipping training documents are on file with EHS.

eShipGlobal:

eShipGlobal is available as a UTMB resource to ship materials at a reduced cost. When eShipGlobal is used to prepare documentation for a shipment of research materials you must select the “Research Materials Shipping” option to comply with DOT/IATA regulations.

Services:

EHS will provide DOT/IATA shipping training courses or approve third-party shipping training courses. EHS will continue to assist laboratories in preparing domestic shipments.

Please visit the shipping website https://www.utmb.edu/ehs/home or contact EHS ehsship@utmb.edu at (409-772-1781) or OTT (409-772-0376) for more information or if you have any questions.
