UTMB is always asked to nominate outstanding young faculty for the Searle Scholars Program and the Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences.  Because this is a limited competition with only one nominee from each selected institution, interested parties are asked to submit a Letter of Intent including a one-page abstract and a biosketch to Ericia Huff on or before May 25, 2018. Candidates will be selected quickly as the first deadline is the end of June.



Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences

The Pew scholars program supports assistant professors of outstanding promise in science relevant to the advancement of human health. The award provides $300,000 in flexible support—$75,000 per year for a four-year period.

• Candidates must have been awarded a doctorate in biomedical sciences or medicine.
• As of Oct. 15, 2018, nominees must hold full-time appointments at the rank of assistant professor.
• On June 29, 2018, candidates must have been in such an appointment for less than three years (not appointed before June 29, 2015).
• Candidates may be nominated by their institutions two times in total.
• If an applicant’s university has more than one eligible nominating institution or campus, that applicant may apply only from one institution; the applicant may not reapply in a subsequent year from a different one.

Searle Scholars Program
The Searle Scholars Program makes grants to selected universities and research centers to support the independent research of exceptional young faculty in the biomedical sciences and chemistry who have recently been appointed as assistant professors on a tenure-track appointment. Grants are $300,000 for a three-year term with $100,000 payable each year of the grant, subject to the receipt of acceptable progress reports.
