Federal policy (National Security Presidential Memorandum-33) requires that all institutions receiving federal money for research establish research security programs. These programs help to protect US-funded research from undue foreign influence, but also to help prevent intellectual property theft. This policy aims to protect national security while still promoting an open research community.

Organizations receiving more than $50 million annually in federal research dollars must have a security program that encompasses cybersecurity, foreign travel security, research security training and export control training. Use the information on this page to help understand your responsibility and how UTMB will comply with this federal mandate.
