Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) are digital versions of a paper data log and can be useful tools for research teams. Data is entered directly into the ELN, which helps to support transparency and reproducibility.
When considering which ELN is right for you, consider how the data is entered and retrieved, how the data is stored (cloud vs. in-house servers), and tracking features such as user rights and roles, inventory management and references. You also want to consider whether it is compliant with sponsor requirements and Good Laboratory Practices.
UTMB Information Services reviewed a number of ELNs available and recommends using one of the options listed below that meet basic requirements for data security.
