Welcome to the Fifth McLaughlin Symposia in Infection & Immunity

Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases: The Interface of Animal and Human Health

Background and Aims:

The Texas-United Kingdom Collaborative Research Initiative in association with The Institute for Human Infections & Immunity and the McLaughlin Symposia in Infection & Immunity of the Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, will host a workshop focusing on infectious diseases at the interface of animal and human health at the San Luis Hotel, Galveston, Texas, February 25-27, 2005. The aims of the workshop are:

• To enable researchers from participating institutions in Texas and their colleagues from the UK to showcase relevant research activities.
• To allow researchers to network with colleagues and explore collaborative opportunities.

Topics for Roundtable Discussions/Collaborations:

1. Herpesviruses
2. Biodefense & Emerging Infectious Diseases
3. Vaccines
4. Rational Approaches to Anti-Microbial Drug Development
