McLaughlin Fellowship Committee announces the creation of Vale-Asche Foundation Fellowships in Infectious Disease Research

The McLaughlin Fellowship Committee and the Director of the IHII are pleased to announce the establishment two predoctoral Vale-Asche Foundation Fellowships in Infectious Disease Research.

Last fall the Vale-Ashe Foundation of Houston Texas donated $50,000 to UTMB for the establishment of infectious disease fellowships. The award followed a visit to the University during which the Foundation learned of the infectious disease research being conducted within the Institute of Human Infections and Immunity, and became aware of the need to train more young scientists in this important area.

Following receipt of the gift, the Director of the IHII and the McLaughlin Fellowship Committee decided to supplement the generous Vale-Ashe gift with sufficient McLaughlin funds to permit the establishment of two one-year graduate student fellowships. The recipients of these two Vale-Asche Foundation Fellowships will be selected from applicants applying for fellowships at the end of March of this year.

The IHII Director and the McLaughlin Committee are certain that the selected individuals will be a credit to UTMB, the Institute, and the Vale-Asche Foundation.
