Call for Proposals - McLaughlin Symposia in Infection and Immunity
FROM: Peter W. Mason, Ph.D., Chair, McLaughlin Fellowship Committee
The James W. McLaughlin Endowment supports an international symposium series entitled "McLaughlin Symposia on Infection and Immunity" that is held in Galveston each year. These symposia are chosen by the McLaughlin Committee from proposals submitted by UTMB faculty. These symposia include invited lecturers recognized as outstanding in their fields plus poster sessions/platform presentations during a 2.5- to 3-day meeting.
The McLaughlin Committee is now requesting proposals from faculty who wish to organize a 2009 McLaughlin Symposium. The deadline for submission of these proposals is July 15, 2008. The meeting can occur anytime during 2009.
The McLaughlin Committee encourages the inclusion of co-organizer(s) from other research institutions to enhance the diversity and quality of the symposia. Plans for these meetings should be made far in advance to obtain the best quality speakers and broadest range of participants.
Proposals are usually no more than 2-3 pages in length.
This year, the McLaughlin Endowment plans to provide $10,000 to $20,000 for selected symposia, depending on the size and length of the meeting. Applicants are encouraged to consider additional funding sources including NIH R13 support. Instructions for preparing proposals are posted at http://research.utmb.edu/intramural_funding/symposia.shtml. Information about the first eight McLaughlin Symposia, and the upcoming 2008 Symposium are also available through this link.
Questions regarding applications should be directed to McLaughlin.IHII@utmb.edu.
