Postdoctoral Grants – applications for postdoctoral fellowships in the field of infection and immunity shall be considered from individuals holding doctoral degrees and having had training and experience in subjects bearing a satisfactory relatiaonship to the fields in which they proposed to do their research.

Predoctoral Grants – applications for predoctoral fellowships shall be considered from exceptionally well qualified students who meet the requirements for admission to the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at UTMB in Galveston, Texas.

Medical Student – applications for medical student fellowships shall be considered from medical students enrolled in the School of Medicine at UTMB in Galveston, Texas. Two types of fellowships are available:

  1. McLaughlin Medical Student Summer Research Fellowships support up to six (6) students to conduct research projects on campus.
  2. Global Health Scholarships support up to two (2) students to participate in field research/activities in developing countries.

McLaughlin Symposia – Annual McLaughlin Symposia on Infection and Immunity is a 2.5-3 day event. It consists of keynote lectures and session/platform presentations given by invited national and international speakers recognized as outstanding in their fields, as well as poster presentations.

Colloquia – Annual James W. McLaughlin Fellowship Fund Research Colloquium is open campus wide to graduate and medical students, postdoctoral and clinical fellows, and residents working in infection and immunity research.

Visiting Professorships – Outstanding scientists in the area of infection and immunity will be invited to UTMB giving presentations and meeting with faculty, students, and postdoctoral fellows.

  3. Annual McLaughlin Research Colloquium – Travel Award
  4. James W. McLaughlin Research Incentive Award
  5. McLaughlin Fellowship Fund Recruitment Award
