Vitaliy Starosta

Vitaliy Starosta is interested in molecular mechanisms of anti-inflammatory and pro-resolution action of Lipoxin A 4 (L xA 4), an endogenous eicosanoid biosynthetized in vivo at inflammation sites. I have received my Ph.D. from the University of Munich on studies of posttranslational modifications of proteins by chronic lung diseases. Potent counter regulatory actions of LxA 4 analogs may provide therapeutic options for inflammatory diseases and could constitute new therapeutic strategies to treat asthma. As part of my studies I will investigate the mechanisms by which LxA 4 counteracts the action of pro-inflammatory cytokines TNF-α and GM-CSF and promotes resolution of inflammation. I will use state-of-the-art proteomics as well as molecular biology tools for investigation of the inflammatory machinery on cellular level. My long-term goal is to become an independent research scientist and find new ways to treat inflammatory diseases. Research Project: Lipoxin A 4-mediated anti-inflammatory signaling
