UTMB enters into license agreements with companies to manufacture/produce/market various technologies belonging to the institution. UTMB receives royalties from these companies, usually a percentage of net sales. Once UTMB recovers any related expenses, income received from these entities is distributed to the inventors or authors within 30 days of receipt of the revenue. For all license agreement executed before 4/16/2004, the royalty distribution will be as follows.
- 50% paid directly to the inventor
- 30% to the inventor as a research account
- 10% to the department of the inventor as a research account
- 10% to the Institution with distribution determined by the President
For all license agreements executed on or after 4/16/2004, the royalty distribution will be as follows
- 50% paid directly to the inventor
- 25% to the Inventor’s lab, which remains in perpetuity at UTMB
- 25% to the Institution with distribution determined by the President
